There can certainly be no doubt about the fact that newspapers are no more the first ones to provide "what's hot-what's not" in this era. In fact the journalists too, approach the internet news to get matter on the subject. And this is very much obvious for media too. They get the most of their material off the internet news that travels within the blink of an eye. If I would have to quote an example, then recall all the talking of "Wiki -leaks". Source? Internet news. Journalists might get the news jotted down first, but newspapers need to wait till the morning to reach their readers. By that time, their readers have already been informed through internet news or probably the media (not to ignore that many view online broadcasting channels in real time so that can count as internet news since they are using web as a medium). However the reliability of the internet news can always be brought into question. Well, to make things realistic, there isn't any reliability unless you are getting it from BBC online. Only from the well known internationally broadcasting channels you can get out the truth. Not the actual truth but definitely what can get nearest to the truth. Other than that it will be foolish to read something at blogs and actually believe what they want you to. They have people like you and me controlling those pages and all the internet news is portrayed and edited to put everything in their favor. Or they just might be trying to promote their sites with gossips. All the fake pictures of celebrities and their news can serve as silencing evidence. So if you are looking for something that isn't something written for the sake of promotion, I would suggest you browsing the websites of news channels. That is much better than wasting your precious time pondering over the comments on blogs deciding what the truth is when none of it is. There are just people supporting their views keeping you from the real truth. Internet news can also be miraculously correct, rather rare, but there is a fair chance of accuracy. I would like to quote the example again of "Wiki-leaks". They actually burst the bubble of lies around us about certain issues. And it's a personal experience; I actually saw my whole board exam practical posted on a blog the night before my paper. Anyhow, the reliability of internet news can be brought up as an issue but it is impossible to eliminate the creation of rumors in human society. So keep blogging but look for authenticity. You never know you might stumble across the actual news.
