Smallville's newest addition to the crew has finally been named. The long wait for whose face will be filling in the role for Kara, Clark's teenage cousin from Krypton, has finally been revealed by TVGuide. Contrary to what others thought that she would be uncovered during the San Diego Comic Con, TVGuide has officially announced that Smallville's Kara aka Supergirl is going to be portrayed by Canadian actress Laura Vandervoort. The actress is best known as the sister of Instant Star lead Jude Harrison (Alexz Johnson) and she is now part of the new members of the cast of Smallville, who may be later under the scrutiny of fans and critics. Smallville fans have nothing to get upset about as Kara or Supergirl is indeed a part of the Superman mythology, in contrast to Supernatural's fan base who sort of overreacted with the cast additions. In the series, Kara will be providing an important link to Clark's Kryptonian roots. Since she was put in suspended animation at an older age then Clark himself, she has the ability to reminisce about their home world in real time. She would also serve as a burden to Clark in the sense that she can't easily adopt to the normal, human teenagers in the society, thus he will have to teach her some human ways. Rumors are also flying that Kara may be placed into a romantic position with Aaron Ashmore's Jimmy Olson at the start of the next season, and will also be evil Lex Luthor's next target. Lex is in the position to tempt her, thus there’s a possibility that she may turn over to his side. Like the young man of steel, she possesses Kryptonian powers, including one he has yet to master. Supergirl has actually surpassed Clark with the ability to fly. This introduces a good question for fans. Will she be the flying mentor for Clark?
