There are few modern conveniences you appreciate as much as a furnace during the cold winter months. In fact, during the coldest part of winter your furnace is running almost non-stop in order to keep your home at a livable temperature. So it can be devastating when your furnace stops working leaving you with a frigid home. Fortunately, most furnace problems can be prevented with a little preventative maintenance. One of the easiest and often overlooked parts of maintaining a furnace is changing the filter. Although small and seemingly insignificant, the filter can have a major impact on the function of your furnace. All of the air pumped into the furnace and through the heat exchanger system passes through the filter first. The filter sifts out any dust particles or dirt in the air to make sure that the air coming into your home is as clean as possible. There are even hypo-allergenic filters that serve to filter out pollens for those who are prone to allergies. When your filter becomes clogged your furnace has to work that much harder to bring in air. This can cause your system to run inefficiently. You can find filters at any home improvement store. The second most important maintenance step is regular furnace servicing from an HVAC professional. This should happen at least once a year. Your technician will make sure all the parts are functioning properly, everything is clean, and that all safety measures are working. By taking care of these simple steps you can avoid major furnace repairs. At Design Comfort (http://www.designcomforthome.net) is a Salt Lake heating we recognize that purchasing a new comfort system is a big decision.
