Workplace wellness programs often rely on the company leadership team to approve wellness budgets and policies but company leaders are often left out of the wellness program itself. In order for your wellness program to be successful and sustainable, the leadership team need to be included in the program but also be seen participating in the initiatives. Engaging the leadership team should be a priority especially while you are developing a business case for wellness. I often suggest to my clients that the very first program should be one exclusively for the leadership team. Once the leadership team have personally seen how health positively impacts their work performance, they are more likely to look favorably on your wellness program. So what programs can you run for your leadership team? There are many providers who offer executive health checks. An executive health check often includes a full medical check-up and should include a lifestyle coaching element and regular follow ups. An executive health check is very different from visiting a GP for a check-up because the focus is solely on the executive. When choosing a provider, ensure that they have a track record of delivering executive health checks and have a personal coach who is able to communicate well at the executive level. Now that the leadership team has seen how a wellness program will positively affect work performance and they have approved your budget, how do you keep them involved? Company leadership needs to be seen to be involved in the wellness program. This will drive employee engagement and interest in the program. A simple way to achieve this is to ask your CEO to launch the program and lay down the challenge to employees. Another good idea is to have a weekly update come from the CEO or leadership team on how they are personally doing in the program and the company in general. CEOs are often too busy to write such emails but you can draft an email and simply ask the CEO to send it from their email. Communication is the key to leadership involvement in your wellness program and should be planned for in your wellness strategy. Engaging leadership in the workplace wellness program will ensure the success of your wellness program. Visit our site for more information on wellness programs today.
