Acorn Media have announced that they have released the second series of popular BBC wartime drama Land Girls. This DVD is only available from Acorn Media until a general release in November. Land Girls was originally commissioned by the BBC to mark the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of World War 2. However the reaction of both the viewers and critics was so positive the BBC commissioned a second series that was aired on BBC1 in January 2011. The programme went on to win a series of television awards including Best Daytime Programme at the 2010 Broadcast Awards and Best Drama at the prestigious Royal Television Society Awards. The second series brings us some of the characters from the old series including 2 of the original Land Girls from the first series, Becci Gemmell as Joyce and Jo Woodcock as Bea. Also back are Sophie Ward, Mark Benton, Danny Webb, Susan Cookson, Mykola Allen and Liam Boyle. New characters introduced include TV newcomer Seline Hizli who won the role of new girl, Connie Carter. The second series has proved to be just as big a success as Series 1 and the appetite of the public for more tales from the Land Girls is set to be satisfied as the BBC have commissioned a Third Series of the Wartime drama. The DVD of the second series contains all five 45 minute episodes set in the rural Forties and continues to follow the lives and loves of the land girls doing their bit for Britain in the women's Land Army. Bea, now a farmer’s wife and mother, and land girl Joyce, are joined at Pasture Farm by new land girl Connie. As the women work hard on the land, serving their country, the drama follows them as they live out their lives in the shadow of war. DVD extras include Actor Filmographies, Photo Gallery and Subtitles To purchase this exclusive DVD visit the Acorn Media website at http://www.acornmediauk.com/index.php/drama/land-girls.html
