A horror crash involving an ambulance that left a woman injured and traumatised has resulted in a Road Traffic Accident Compensation Claim payout of £18,500. North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) Trust has been forced to pay compensation to a woman whose car was ploughed into by an ambulance on an emergency call. Caron Lake was driving to a museum in Redcar to pick up her daughter who had just finished working when her vehicle was struck by the ambulance driven by Colin Hayden. The ambulance was travelling at over 50 miles per hour at the time and Mrs Lake suffered injuries that have left her with back injuries. As well as the injuries Mrs Lake has been left traumatised by the incident which could have been much worse had the ambulance struck the front of the car instead of the rear door of her Nissan Micra. Mrs Lake took legal action against North East Ambulance Service Trust with a personal injury compensation claim on the grounds that the driver of the ambulance made various errors prior to the crash that resulted in the collision. In the event the North East Ambulance Service Trust admitted 100% liability and agreed to pay Mrs Lake £18,500 in compensation. Emergency response workers are of course allowed to break certain traffic laws in order to fulfil their duties however this case highlights that on the occasions where errors or recklessness causes an accident the public are able to seek compensation to help them recover.
