Days of Our Lives star James Reynolds was finally sent home after his heart valve replacement surgery on May 24. He spent ten days in the hospital before he was sent home to continue his recovery in the care of his wife, Lissa. Reynolds previously suffered from pulmonary valve stenosis, a heart birth defect occuring in one out of ten children. The condition is characterized by narrowed pulmonary valve, causing a constriction that makes the heart pump blood even harder through the valve. Reynolds and his wife then created a website (www.jrrecovery.com) which serves as a blog for Reynolds to keep his fans updated on his health and recovery. The website also contains assuring messages and a message board where fans can log in and leave a message for the Days of Our Lives star who plays Abe Carver in the soap opera. In one blog entry after finding out he needed a surgery, 54 year old Reynolds narrates, "Guess what...I had open heart surgery over my vacation. I could have gone to Hawaii, but nope, surgery for me. What a surprise! I go to the hospital for a test and the doctor strongly suggests I don't go home. It turns out I was born with a deficient valve in my heart. Heck, I had a show to do that weekend. I didn't want to miss it. Sometimes life is bloody inconvenient." He continues to say that when he was in the Intensive Care Unit, he "looked like some monster from the future with wires and tubes sticking out of my neck, chest, and abdomen." Recovery will be taking a lot of time for him, though he says that he will be focusing on it above everything. His family, friends and fans have been very supportive of him, his wife, Lissa and son, Jon above everyone. He also wishes to thank Eric Nelson and Devon Ericson who came up with the idea of the blog and to all of the people who have visited him and expressed their concern in one way or another. Reynolds' gratitude extends to the doctors and nurses who patiently attended to his needs while he was at the hospital. Although he has been released from the hospital for home care, he is still required to spend at least a month away from the set of Days of Our Lives.
