Several certifications and requirements are needed to be able to obtain a legitimate boat or water vessel. These legal requirements have to be duly met in order for these vessels to be placed on the market, or to be put into service. One of the most critical requirements for a boat to be fully functional and operational would be the recreational craft directive, also known as the RCD. This specific certification deals with several factors concerning a water vessel, including the construction and design of any personal boat, together with partly completed boats and its components. This certification also focuses on the emissions of the vessel’s propulsion engines, and also the noise emission of any particular boat. However, the recreational craft directive certification does not apply to all forms of water transportation and specific watercrafts, including those boats that are used for rowing and racing events. Which ones qualify are often labeled by the boat manufacturer on unit itself. Surfboards, sailing surfboards, canoes, gondolas, pedalos, kayaks, experimental boats, and historical vessels that were designed before the year 1950 are also exempted from the recreational craft directive. Adding to this, hydrofoils, submersibles, external combustion powered vessels, air cushion vehicles, and propulsion engines are also exempted from the recreational craft directive certification. Other than that, any water vessel that is not included in the mentioned list should comply with the necessary requirements. In the Great Britain area and in the Northern part of Ireland, they have proper authorities that put into effect the recreational craft directive policy. If any boat owner has been found guilty, then they may be facing at least three months in prison, or might be required to pay a certain fine. Boat owners must take note of this, so as to prevent legal misunderstandings. For potential boat buyers, they should make sure that the recreational craft directive certification is legitimate and always available in times when authorities may want to have it checked. Boat owners must also be careful when it comes to fake CE proofing, and so it would be best that they are fully aware of all these conditions before purchasing their own water vessel.
