18 years ago my wife and I were married on December 22. Because of an obvious conflict with the holidays we have found it difficult to celebrate our anniversary with any sort of trip or vacation. Having children that want to take in all of the joys of Christmas we have started celebrating the half year mark of our wedding by taking a romantic getaway in June. Allowing us to keep all of the holiday traditions and festivities intact we have found that by making plans in June we can take the time to celebrate our love without interfering with any of the parties, social events, shopping and decorating that takes throughout December. While we have made up our own reason to go on a romantic retreat during the summer many other people are also enjoying the freedom of being able to take advantage of some of the romantic getaways in Illinois that allow them to escape their everyday life and reconnect with each other away from the responsibilities of the house and work. Leaving our children in the capable care of my sister, my wife and I have discovered that we can celebrate our anniversary in style by moving it up six months. Of course we still make time to plan a romantic dinner out of the house on our actual anniversary, but by having our own private romantic getaways in Illinois we are able to make the occasion much more special as we stay in an upscale resort and enjoy having some time just to ourselves. Making the most out of marriage we have been discussing the possibility of taking a small romantic trip once a quarter to keep our relationship on track.
