Many of us in our school years preferred the wondrous charm of a 3D map, also known as a world globe, in which we could observe the world from any perspective and in any manner of our choosing. A world globe is also seen as an invaluable tool for any instructor who teaches history and social mediums, including geography. Due to the world globes and their spherical shape, maps using the world globe model are often more accurate than any 2D representation could ever hope to be, and offer a full scope of the planet Earth. Model world globes only became a staple in offices and places of learning when it was discovered mathematically that the world was indeed round and not flat, a practice men of science had an extremely hard time passing as the Church’s power was resistant to accept this fact. Many ancient people thought a round world impossible, and only with the introduction of model world globes did the belief start to spread and become popular. One great asset displayed by a number of world globes is that they are not only easy on the eyes and grandly elegant, but can also add to a tropical decor, as well as being a vessel for knowledge and geography. Spaces where zen or quiet thought is highly valued are optimal places to display any number of world globes. World globes are crafted from all types of materials and have hardly any limits on the type of materials they can be made of. Popular materials include metals such as brass, bronze, silver, or gold, though some are only plated by metal and others still are made of wood beneath and enamel or lacquer on top. Wooden world globes are the preferred material for the globes of scholars to be made out of, as they can be lifted easily compared to metal, and they are oftentimes shatter proof due to their dense, hard wooden core. While it is not a particularly flashy piece, world globes do help in accompanying other large pieces and enhancing or toning down their own presence. Metal is a stalwart and more bold choice in choosing which material one’s globe is to be crafted from, and as such world globes can be easily revised to be flashy pieces in their own right. Extremely old globes that are devoid of certain countries or incorrect mapping areas can be ordered or purchased either new or as a very old antique, though most are in the possession of museums. When purchasing a world globe, whether old and highly expensive or young, newly made, and cheaper, your purchase of world globes are extremely well invested, as they are timeless pieces that never go out of style. Some world globes are engraved with names of families or the prior owner, and the date should also be inscribed somewhere on the pedestal as per mandate.
