Remember the top carp bait additive - Robin Red? It is so recognisable now and used by nearly every single bait company in the UK that you will do very well to use the tips given here to make it that little bit different and catch even more fish (especially when the going gets tough in winter and spring!) You can alter or adapt the legendary carp bait additive called Robin Red in endless easy ways to make it perform better where carp are a little too used to it! If you like using spices, curry powder or chilli then add these and maybe CC Moore Chilli Extract liquid too. You can get water-soluble oleoresin products from formula-Carp for instance – Denzil Thorpe tells me his range are doing wonders! Adapting or changing this famous additive in advance of use so it resembles something slightly different can really lower fish feeding caution and lead to improved feeding responses. Just some of the things I do is add linseeds soaked in CC Moore Lactose Concentrate with Super Cherry Amino compound, with fennel (and not aniseed) essential oil-soaked chopped fennel seeds plus pure maple syrup-soaked egg food. Or make your Robin Red a little more different to usual why not add additional kelp meal, crushed hemp seed, Niger seed and canary seed and millet soaked in liquid liver or liquid yeast for instance with added Betaine and Talin intense sweetener?! Other various versions I have prepared included, concentrated Garlic, ground clove powder, cumin, coriander, paprika powder, pimento extract, Chinese 5 spice, fresh cracked black pepper, and black pepper oil (among various oils.) For a sweeter version you might go for cracked corn steeped in corn steep liquor and hemp oil, Vanilla Extract powder, Acai berry powder, and other natural extracts etc. Adding intense sweeteners such as CC Moore Ultrasweet boosts the natural sugar sweet taste-burst longevity of the molasses within Robin Red. I could mention adding many other effective changes but do try any of these for winter and spring (and the rest of the year too!) A very reliable base for a bait is Robin Red steeped in Minamino liquid food with added Liquid Liver Amino Compound from CC Moore which seriously raises the nutritional profile of your bait and can be used as an excellent alternative bait soak boosted with pure betaine, Talin, and perhaps Fructose Concentrate to seriously boost bait impacts on carp in winter and spring! Many soluble and highly digestible ingredients and extracts etc an be exploited in winter and spring baits alongside robin red type products. Soluble powders and liquids can be formed into bait dips, glugs and soaks so be creative! Soluble fish protein L030 is a real winner! For example use 50 grams per kilogram of boilie base mix (or even use in unlimited amounts) with complete confidence! It is so water-soluble it is absolutely ideal for the low temperatures of winter and spring. (Do not forget the power of pre-digested fish protein too!) Other additives can be used to seriously boost your baits impacts including: CC Moore concentrated yeast powder. This has a unlimited inclusion rate and is ideal for winter or all year round use being more water-soluble than most yeast powders! Enzyme-treated yeast powder. This improves potency and digestibility of your ground baits or boilies etc and really ideal in winter baits. Use about 200 grams per kilogram of dry mix. Pure pharmaceutical grade liver powder is one of those things you need to try using! In winter and spring try including it at maybe around 10 percent of your homemade base mixes and ground baits. The maize protein product called Supergold 60 is really good for open-texture baits and supplies loads of nutrition (60 percent protein.) If you want a chicken type then try using poultry protein meal. Try using super pure betaine at 2 grams to 6 grams per kilogram of dry ground bait and if you want baits that really are different then try soaking any of your cheap boilies in a mixture of CC Moore Liquid Kelp and their Liquid Belachan or Shrimp Extract liquid. For a more alternative spicy winter and spring bait try CC Moore Red Venom with maybe their concentrated anchovy extract plus their Frankfurter flavour perhaps. Do try CC Moore Fructose Concentrate totally natural intense sweetener! It is little-known and so is vastly under-used by anglers today. I find it an excellent as fish attractor and feeding stimulant catching many forties using it! Use 2-3 grams per kilogram of ground bait or boilies in winter, spring or all year round! What can be said about CC Moore Feedstim XP powder other than it has hooked many of the biggest fish in the UK and is simply not to be missed - especially when the going gets tough! Try using 20 to 30 grams per kilogram in boilies or unlimited amounts in ground baits! Cyprivit vitamin supplement: this is a must when you realise just how potently attractive this product is in so many nutritional and economical homemade baits. Vitamins are essential to carp and offer really a vital bait edge! Not many anglers think of using it so get on it before the herd does! In case you missed it, next time just taste the flavours of a vitamin pill when you take one and remember that carp senses are thousands of times stronger than your own! I could go on and on about countless ingredients, additives, extracts, liquids and so on but here I will just leave you with a short-list of some easy to use and more familiar additves and ingredients so you will recognise them and maybe use them in alternative ways and combinations! Corn Steep Liquor powder is a sweet very rich liquid food that you can mix into your baits with complete confidence it will bring them alive! Extra strength garlic powder and blue cheese powder have such impacts in low water temperatures. In garlic this is in part to the prebiotic nature of garlic (improving bait digestion,) the antioxidant impacts it has in fish, plus other well-known benefits and features. Blue cheese powder is a potent smelling protein source with soluble salts and certain attractive acids etc are all part of its attraction. This powder is often used in winter and spring baits but I find it is excellent in boilies, pastes and ground baits all year round! Vitamealo and skimmed milk powders offer great creamy taste and smell to ground baits and boilies etc and are able to cloud up the water very effectively being so water-soluble – not to be missed! These milk powders are fantastic in economical but seriously effective ground baits and boilies in cold conditions! Many top anglers have used CC Moore Liquid Liver Extract for years knowing it is one of the most familiar and reliably effective liquid foods. For winter and spring ground baits and boilies why not make a unique liquid food mixture to use for various purposes? For example try liquid liver extract with really awesome power-packed liquid foods such as CC Moore Red Venom or their Meat Amino Compound packed with Marmite-like highly-digestible animal proteins ideal for winter and spring baits.
