For many generations critics of the book of Revelation have tried to discredit it because it contains certain events that were seen as completely impossible to ever be literally fulfilled For instance at one point it speaks of two people who are killed and left lying in the street in Jerusalem while the world watches. Just a couple decades ago many who would have read about that would have seen it as absolutely impossible. They would be stumped to even imagine how it would be possible for an event taking place on a street in Jerusalem to be watched by people around the world? Today not only is it possible to see live images from around the globe it is a daily occurrence for most of us when we turn on the nightly news. If you are under the age of thirty, odds are you can't recall a time when you weren't completely immersed in live audio and video footage from around the world. Unlike those of us who are older they can't imagine a world without this technology. They also can't imagine a world where video images were dependent on the major news networks. Social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube have absolutely altered the way people communicate with one another.. When we add live video streaming into the mix it's easy to see how this once laughable prophecy is nothing to scoff at any more. Revelation also contains a prophecy about a world leader who will require people to have some sort of a mark placed on the back of their hand or on their forehead. Without this mark people will be able to buy or sell. This so called "mark of the beast" used to be seen as impossibility. How in the world could something placed on a person be used to monitor buying and selling? How could something on a person's body be used as a means of exchanging funds? How could it be possible for a society to ever function without cash? Today not many people are asking those questions because technology has come to the place where this is not only possible it seems to be very probable. I wonder, could that sort of technology be seen as the answer to many problems people deal with today. For instance, how many times have you lost a credit card? Do you know anyone who has ever had a credit card stolen?? Have you ever driven to the airport only to discover that you had forgotten your passport? Have you ever left your drivers license sitting on the kitchen table and driven off without it? Could an implantable RFID chip perhaps be the solution to these problems? Could the implementation of this technology be just over the horizon? In every generation there have been those who were convinced they were living in the last days before the end of this age. Can you imagine if someone who lived a hundred hundred years ago could see the world we live in today? What about someone from a thousand years ago? What about a man or woman from the first century? Have you ever wondered if perhaps the vision the Apostle John saw was a picture of the world we live in? What might he think of our military technology? How would that person describe anti-aircraft rockets being launched? How would he or she describe an Apache attack helicopter? Is it possible that the words he would use would be very much like what we find on the pages of The Revelation?
