As a writer, you're most often standing on the edge of the spotlight. Your books do all the talking, and you can avoid much of the attention, which is something most writers want. But all that changes when you're asked to take a headshot for your "About the Author" section. This makes a lot of introverted authors uncomfortable, and you may find yourself stressing out about how to take a good photo. Here are a few tips for those of you who are not quite used to standing in the limelight. Know Your Photographer Being in front of a camera can be stressful enough; the last thing you need is to have someone you're not comfortable with standing on the other side of that camera. So take the time to meet with your Washington, DC, headshot photographer before you get your photos done. Ensure you're comfortable with him or her so that it'll be easier to relax during the photo session. Be in a Comfortable Environment If the idea of trying to pose in a studio just makes you feel awkward, ask your photographer if they can do your photos at another location. Perhaps they can take headshots of you in your natural environment, like in your office where you do all of your writing. This can go a long way towards taking the edge off of your nerves. Remember to Be Excited When you're getting your photos done, try to remember that this is all happening because of a great reason. Your book is being published, and that's something that should be celebrated. So even if you're very anxious about getting your headshots done, remember that it is all a part of fulfilling your dream of being a published author. If you need to get headshots done, start looking for a Washington, DC, headshot photographer so that you have time to find someone you're comfortable with.
