476. EBR’s Two of a Kind
July 18, 2014

Meanwhile, riders Geoff May and Aaron Yates multitask between developing the bike and racing, which are often intertwined. Besides a noticeable Southern accent (they’re both from Georgia) and a penchant for Italy that made Bergamo their second home, May and Yates share a can-do attitude and seemingly undying faith in the manufacturer and team. However, the world stage has not been as pleasant inside the track as outside. “It hasn’t always been fun, as I’ve never experience being so far back in the field,” May analyzed. “We had much more competitive bike in AMA in relation with the other teams... 477. EBR – Balancing on Shaky Grounds
July 18, 2014

Negotiations between manufacturers, promoter Dorna, and FIM regarding future regulations have been veering toward cost reduction and technical downsizing, which could further level the competition. More specifically, some brands advocate for leaving engine and electronics almost untouched from the original production versions of the bikes while others want to preserve more room for tuning. “It is essential to reduce expenses,” Bardi conceded. “But, at the same time, the manufacturers’ interest for development and the overall appeal and prestige of the championship should be safeguarded. Most ... (read more)

478. EBR: Treading New Paths
July 17, 2014

This venture is just the latest of Erik Buell’s trailblazing visions. The AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famer and Bardi first met in the US about three years ago, when the latter was still a member of the WSBK Commission – more specifically, in charge of developing and approving regulations and scouting potential new entries – and the Race Direction. In between races in Miller Motorsports Park, a seemingly immanent connection was established. “I consider myself a romantic, and I like this side of racing much more than the organizational one,” admitted Bardi, who previously also worked in a similar c... 479. American Renaissance: New Humble Beginnings
July 16, 2014

This hangar was empty in December, and we are still getting together all the necessary machines to work on the bikes in between races,” Bardi said. “We will add a lathe, prototypal upgrades that are required on the frame side. For example, we worked on a new specification for the rear shock, which we calibrated here. As for the engine, here we only carry on studies, designs, trials, and adjustments. If the results are positive, the US headquarters will implement a small-scale production and send it over to us. Then we file reports from the track.” In Italy, the team carried out the basic work... 480. American Renaissance
July 15, 2014

Erik Buell Racing is in a David-versus-Goliath battle competing in World Superbike. We take a look at the team’s inner workings at its base in Verdello, Italy Perched atop a fortified hill lies Bergamo’s old town. During the Renaissance, when it marked the westernmost boundary of the Venetian Republic, the citadel hosted one of the biggest fairs in Europe. The ensuing prosperity bestowed upon Bergamo a renowned architectural and artistic heritage and gradually cemented it as one of the strategic crossroads in Northern Italy, which it still is. Abiding – whether consciously or not – by this tr... (read more)

481. The advantages of using latex gloves for medical purposes
July 12, 2014

In the world of medical profession, doctors, nurses and other medical stuff are often required to physically inspect patients on a close level. In such instances it becomes necessary for them to use gloves to prevent themselves as well as the patients from any possible infections. The patients also need protection from the direct touch of the doctors as it causes different types of germs to enter their bodies. This is especially true in case of highly sensitive situations such as when a patient is being operated on, and his inner bodily organs are exposed. Not taking appropriate measures in su... July 12, 2014

Medical examination gloves are very essential because it provides protection against infection and several other risks to people in the health industry. Thus it is important that the caregivers and the caretakers make correct choice of protection. When you go and buy gloves from the store it is not necessary for you to know how it was manufactured but there are a certain things that you must take into consideration and some of them are: 1. Medical gloves are not just self protective equipment but they are also considered as a medical device thus ultimate care is taken when manufacturing t... (read more)

483. One-Wheeled Wonder: More Monocycles
July 10, 2014

McLean Monocycle Ryno puts the motor inside the wheel – the McLean Monocycle puts you (and the motor) inside the wheel. Kerry McLean’s Standard monowheel is powered by a 5-hp Briggs & Stratton four-stroke motor and measures 4 feet in diameter; he also built – and crashed –a special exhibition version powered by a 225-hp Buick V8. BPG Uno Conceived by Canadian teenager Ben Gulak in 2006, the electric-powered Uno isn’t technically a monocycle but, rather, a dicycle with two drive wheels closely spaced side by side. The Uno operates much like the Ryno, with acceleration and deceleration contro... (read more)

484. SHAD Zulupack Soft Luggage
July 10, 2014

Forget for a moment that the first person who saw SHAD’s Zulupack luggage on my motorcycle suggested that it had all the visual appeal of an old tire – adventure riding isn’t supposed to be sexy,. Inner-tube aesthetics aside, the comparison is completely appropriate, since the Zulupack gear offers rugged durability similar to the average radial tire. This stuff seems indestructible. Made from 420-denier nylon coated with waterproof PVC on both sides, constructed using seamless welding technology, and featuring waterlight zippers, these bags are waterproof and claim to be a highly tear-and abr... 486. Michelin Pilot Road 4
July 09, 2014

Michelin’s new Pilot Road 4 isn’t just one sport-touring tire; it’s three. The standard PR4 is meant for most motorcycles up to the big sport-touring rigs because, for them, there’s the Pilot Road 4 GT. Don’t feel left out if you own a BMW GS though; the third version is the Pilot Road 4 Trail, which is not a dirt-oriented tire at all – just a conventional sport-touring bun in the sizes most big ADVs use. And while the PR4 looks a lot like its predecessor, much has changed. Fronts and rears both have dual compounds, harder in the center of the tread as expected, but the X-Sipe Technology has ... 487. Matching Up With Aluminium Machining
July 08, 2014

When it comes to aluminium machining, there has been a general consensus that cutting fluids or lubricants are not entirely necessary. Still, there are some contentions that for best results, a certain amount of cutting lubricant should be introduced in the cutting process. Nevertheless, in the modern machining workplace, cutting fluids are used in less than 20 percent of many machine job orders. This is actually the case in many aluminium machining requests these days. In short, making use of cutting fluids is no longer the norm. There are actually several advantages when cutting lu... (read more)

488. Workshop Hero Metal Rescue Rust Treatment
July 07, 2014

From acid baths to sand blasting, there are lots of ways to clean out a corroded gas tank. Add another, better method to the list. Metal Rescue form Workshop Hero is simpler, easier, and safer than any other process I’ve tried (and I’ve tried them all). Metal Rescue is a non-toxic, water-based mixture, so it won’t ravage your skin or damage painted, plastic, or rubber parts. And it works. Like magic. I’ve used Metal Rescue to return a half-dozen old gas- tanks to service, clean up corroded tools, and restore rusty parts. So how does it work? “Chelation,” says Workshop Hero Vice President Dave... 489. One-wheeled Wonder
July 07, 2014

Ryno’s Monocycle – Novelty or New Paradigm? With just a 10-mile range, 10mph top speed, and a price of $5,300, the Ryno’s main appeal – like most machines rolling on 240-section tires – is novelty. Still, the unique style and functionality is enough for some – including Ryno’s hometown Portland, Oregon, police department – to clamor for this electric-powered Cyclops cycle. The Ryno was born when inventor Chris Hoffmann’s daughter asked if he could make a motorized unicycle like one she saw in a video game. Hoffmann set out to make science fiction into reality, assuming eventually he would un... (read more)

490. Properties of Lead for Radiation Shielding
July 04, 2014

Lead is a highly effective radiation shielding material, and is used in the manufacturing of almost all radiation safety systems. The several properties of lead that make it an effective radiation shielding material are: High density High atomic number Good level of stability Ease of fabrication High degree of flexibility Lead is vastly available and is also very cheap. Lead is less likely to be contaminated, and is immediately available for re-use. Lead shielding attenuates the harmful radiation like x-rays, gamma rays, etc. and makes them impotent. It reduces their effectivene... (read more)

491. 3D Printing vs. CNC Machining
July 04, 2014

Creating material objects from computer-driven machinery is undoubtedly the future of manufacturing. It is a cheap and effective way in which to produce a physical replica of a digital mock-up. There are many ways in which one can go about producing these objects but the main two ways are by using a 3D printer or CNC machining. The aim of this article is to conclude which method of creation is the most effective. What are they? 3D printing is the process of creating various objects from a digital 3D model. This is carried out by the printer building up multiple layers of thin matter ... (read more)

494. Zero Gravity Sport Touring Windscreen
July 01, 2014

Windscreens might appear to be simple, curved pieces of plastic, but shield height and shape are as critical to a bike’s wind protection as its style, especially on sportbikes. To make a new-to-me 2007 GSX-R1000 more comfortable, a 3-inch-taller Sport Touring shield from Zero Gravity got the nod. ZG calls the tint “light smoke”, but it’s rated at 20 percent transparency. Mounting the screen consumed 10 trouble-free minutes, even with mirror removal, using the stock well nuts and plastic screws. Pre-drilled mounting holes lined up perfectly, but the lower edge shows a small gap between the sc... (read more)

495. Buy American: Where do You Stand in 2014
June 30, 2014

For the most part this is hard for me to comment on because I generally am not the type to hold on to gripes, more than that we keep our nose to the grind stone so much at Led Sleds that we rarely know about so much of this until someone brings it to our attention. But recently when a part we made was infringed upon by another company who took it overseas and are now selling a lesser quality product to American Consumers at a cheaper price than we can, it started to become clear, there are many issues that need addressed. First and foremost the fact that there are no international patents for... (read more)

496. Manufacturing: Buy American or Die!
June 30, 2014

Where do we stand in 2014? At this point in the American economy it seems as though we are on more stable ground than we have been for some time. Still, the questions of how we got to such a low point in the country’s history comes back with a million answers from the manufacturing sector and the fact that outsourcing has nearly killed our economy, weakened our standing in the national community and lowered the standard of living for the average American quite a bit. Things are starting to change and there are a lot of encouraging things about those changes but just as many come with more co... (read more)

497. Dye Sublimation or Screen Printing: Which is Better?
June 29, 2014

LAST UPDATED ON: February 1, 2018 Without thinking about the cost, which is better - dye sublimation or screen printing? While you could, in theory, print a fabric banner using screen printing equipment (t-shirts are most often screen printed and they're made of cloth), the wider variety of things you can screen print cannot be printed using the dye sublimation printing process. Primarily Used on Polyester Fabrics Here's a short explanation to back up what I'm saying. Dye sublimation banner or display printing is almost exclusively done on polyester fabrics, whether it's ... 499. The Importance of Integrated Security Systems for Businesses
June 23, 2014

Before we discuss the importance of integrated security systems, it is crucial to define exactly what they are in the business perspective. It is a fact that businesses are often vulnerable to burglary and theft. From complex business headquarters to small grocery stores, businesses can lose their investments once attacked by lawless elements. This has resulted to many businesses becoming more cautious when it comes to security. It also gave way for security experts to develop security systems that could not only secure property investments but can also save lives. More often than not, th... (read more)
