While the final answer will depend on your specific needs, your home, and your preferences, there is much to be said for linen. Linen’s popularity is on the rise both in the U.S. and in Canada. Larger retailers have been embracing it as a trend for 2016, which has helped spike its popularity. However, note that this is nothing new. Linen has been popular as a drapery for thousands of years. Yes, thousands! In fact, linen drapes have been found in the tombs of the Pharaohs of ancient Egypt. Linen is popular for many reasons. First, it’s relatively affordable and it’s available in numerous weights and weaves. It also does a great job absorbing color dyes, which means it can get a great, deep, rich color. As we noted, you can get rid of them but if you’re looking for something you can hang immediately then linen may not be the best choice. Linen is a natural fabric, for the most part, and as a result it can fade over time. This is especially true when it’s in direct sunlight. You can add a high quality lining to protect your custom linen draperies, and you can keep them out of rooms that get an excess of sunlight. However, it is something to take into consideration. If wrinkles are a big concern for you then there are other options that won’t wrinkle as much. If fading is an issue then there are options that won’t fade.
