Years ago I started playing a game - Cash Flow – How to Get Out of the Rat Race. The game was created in 1994 by Robert Kiyosaki, a highly celebrated real-estate investor and author in the world of finance who has several books featured on the New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller lists. He is the founder of Rich Dad Company and CashFlow Technologies, Inc. The Cash Flow game is a tool to teach people to use their money and financial education to get out of the rat race and onto the fast track to wealth and prosperity. It brings together the tools of investing and accounting and offers true education in financial matters through repetition, mistakes and course corrections. Basically, the more you play the game the more you learn techniques that translate into the real world of finance. There are two versions of the game 101 and 202. First, I began playing the Cash Flow 101 game with several other people. It is a comparatively easy game, even though it is very difficult and challenging for most people, particularly for people who lack basic financial education. Later I began playing the 202 game, but found it extremely difficult to find people who could play at that level with me. I literally had to go through almost the entire country to find people to play. Later on, I invested in the computer version of the game and played Cash Flow 202 for several days at a time. Why did I do that? The board version of the Cash Flow game, actually trains your brain to act in a certain way. If you play the game enough the activities become the second nature to you, and you should be able to reap the rewards of a passive income and financial freedom just by doing what you are doing already in life, but differently. The board game has many advantages over the computer version. With the board game, you play with other people, you deal with those people, and when you do that your emotions start to step in. After certain point in playing, when you complete the financial statements; people tend to forget the emotions and completely become a part of the game. Once you understand it, you can apply the principles learned in the game to the real world and in particular to your life and current financial situation. Cash Flow 101 The Cash Flow 101 game teaches you (actually provokes you) to find ways to get out of the usual 9 to 5 rat race in which most people are trapped Simply, if you can gain passive income (an income that continues to come even if you don’t actively work) higher than your monthly expenditures, you can consider yourself out of the rate race and on the fast track. The question remains how can you build assets that generate passive income; and that’s what the game teaches you next. Cash Flow 202 The Cash Flow 202 game is extremely interesting once you have mastered 101. Cash Flow 202 takes you to the next level utilizing the information you have gleaned from Cash Flow 101. In Cash Flow 202, there is even a fast track version in which you have loads of money at the beginning so you can quickly explore your emotions, fears, joys, and passions; digging g deep inside and learning new things about yourself. Though it sounds completely incredible, I can personally guarantee that, the more you play, the easier it gets for you to manage your finances in real life. At one point in time, I played the game so much that I actually started cursing at people while playing, because I was seeing what was happening to them, the mistakes they were making with their balance sheets, what misconceptions and notions they had about assets and liabilities. I found myself trying to influence and manipulate the game. Playing the game with other people offers you an advantage and an opportunity; you can ask them what they see you doing; and they can tell you what they see. This is beneficial because most of the time you can’t see what’s happening with your own life since you are inside of it; but an outsider may be able to easily point it out allowing you to identify problems and make the necessary changes toward financial success. Key Point - Financial Statement The financial statement, in both the game and in real life is actually one of the most important tools you need to keep your finances healthy, maintained and in absolute control – your control. Many people don’t feel they need a financial statement, but trust me my friends, once you have created a financial statement you will be set for the rest of your life and things will be so much easier. Creating your personal financial statement allows you to take a hard look at your financial situation. It will provide you with a current evaluation of your financial health or lack thereof, and help you identify the areas in which you struggle financially. With this knowledge, you can then move forward using your personal financial statement and your new found financial education. As you make changes to your financial health, I encourage you and challenge you to play Cash Flow 101 and 202, and move toward a better life, one that is fulfilling and financially significant.
