Hair extensions have remained a popular trend, even more so now when compared to previous years. People get hair extensions for a number of reasons, and with so many people having various demands, it’s important to know about the types of hair extensions available. This allows you to option all your options and find one that suits you perfectly. So on that note, let us have a look at some of the main types of hair extensions. Tape-In This type of extension are exactly what they sound like. They come in small wefts that can be easily taped to existing hair. However, it has also been noted that the most popular kind of tape-in size is approximately one and a half feet long, and tape tabs that have been pre-cut are also attached. The size can go up to eight feet depending on your preference and they can be removed and reused by using a solvent and double sided tape respectively. Micro-loops This type of extension is also known by some as the micro-ring extension, but they actually are different in the sense that one is done by means of attaching small bits of pre-bundled hair with the use of beads, while the other method uses loops/rings – hence the name. After the hair is pulled through the ring, it’s compressed to ensure that everything is properly held in place. Seeing every hair bundle has a pre-connected bead and loop, the application process can be done quickly. Clip-In These can be found in just about any hair extensions salon, but they aren’t so popular now given the increase in variety. Nevertheless, this extension is made of hair wefts with clips attached to the insides. They have a systematic approach that allows one clip to tend to 2 inches of hair or four clips with eight inches of hair. It is easy to install and very affordable – so if you’re going for a night on the town or going about your daily activities, clip-ins can come in handy. Weaving/Sew-In This one of the more popular hair extensions around and it is done making a small horizontal cornrow in the client’s head, then the weft or bundle of hair is sewn to that cornrow using a c-shaped needle. Given the fact that there are glues or other chemicals involved in the process, it has a chance of holding even longer when compared to other extensions. Hot fusion The hot fusion extension is actually bundles of hair that have been pre-tipped and can be connected to existing hair using a heating tool. It is derived from protein-based keratin polymer that is clear, so there is no worry about it matching your hair color. If your natural hair is weak and you need hair extensions for thin hair, you should be careful about using hot fusion, because it has a tendency to do damage over time.
