Learning to cook can be difficult if you don't have the right knowledge at hand. Use the information that you will find in this article to help you hone your cooking skills.

A cool and dark location is best for storing spices and herbs. Moisture, light and heat can affect the flavor of your spices. Usually, a freshly ground spice or herb will keep its flavor for around a year. Spices that have not been ground may still be worth using for three years or a little more. Store your spices correctly to make them last.

Always bake pie and tart crusts for longer than the recipe specifies for best results. The crust should have a nice golden color to be fully cooked. This deeper color is evidence that the sugar has caramelized in the crust for added sweetness. Cake Pop Recipe When trying to cut strips of meat, partially freeze it for a more firm cut. This is best for Asian meals such as Thai or Chinese dishes. When meat is slightly frozen, it becomes simpler to slice because the fibers won't stretch and tear that easy. Allow the meat strips to completely thaw before you throw them in the cooking pan, so you can be sure that the strips all cook evenly.

If you are cooking for someone you want to impress, cook something you already know how to make. That would be a bad time to experiment with the unknown, whether it is an untried recipe or ingredient. This makes cooking less stressful.

You can simplify the cooking process by doing your prep work well in advance. This is a great time saver, and can make that complex recipe into something that is quick and fun.
