Hello! Dear aspirants of UGC NET, here are some important tips which I would like to share, based on my experience and observation, to crack UGC-NET English Literature. English Literature is an ocean; it’s a real challenge for the students to know every nook and corner of the subject. Literature is an adventurous subject which can change ones perception and can mould one’s personality. There is a systematic way of preparing for the examination. One should be smart enough in his/her method of designing the study. So here I am going to give you some healthy suggestions. You all know that UGC is not providing specific syllabus. So, how to find a way to success? Start your preparation by knowing the background of each and every ages, terms, authors, and works and History of English literature. I advise you to start from Greco-Roman literature, which influenced English literature in many ways. It helps you to understand the origin of many terms. It can also be called as the foundation of English Literature. Focus on Ages of literature; understand the different events happened in each and every age, which influence the writers and their works. This framework will make your study easier. Once when you get confidence on the background of different ages, then it will be easy to study various texts of that period. Remember "Literature is a mirror of society" So background plays a vital role for your preparation. Next study major authors of each age with their biographies. Its better, if you prepare your own pocket notes, make a list of major authors and their top rated works. TIME MANAGEMENT: Time is the only step which can show you a new life. So fix a time table for your studies. Love the subject, dedicate FOUR hours every day for THREE months for literature which will in return give you a fruitful result. SUBJECT: Be smart in selecting authors, so solve previous year question papers and also model papers. This will give you an idea about what to focus on. UGC mainly focuses on British, American, Indian and Caribbean writers and works, besides Criticism and Literary Theories. NOTES: Make notes of your own, read poetry, novels and plays; construct character trees, which will be easier to revise. Remember the silliest points from the major texts (beginning word/line, ending word/line) and also major characters track. In the notes point out the timeline of ages, authors and publication dates. Prepare a list of famous awards, prizes and contemporary writers and their recent publications. MAINTAIN ORDER: Follow an order in your studies. Make it as step after step preparation. Do not skip any age. Make sure to know major authors and their works of every period. UP TO DATE: Literature is a subject where you can find new happenings every day. So keep updating your notes related to recent publications, awards and achievements. REVISION: Proper revision is required, as I mentioned before, you are in an ocean. Keep revising your notes every week. Addition to this adapt the habit of discussing with other aspirants about your preparation
