Satoru Fujinuma is your ordinary man; he is a manga artist, but isn't very successful so he has to part time deliver to pay the bills. He goes about his life in a very ordinary fashion, almost blending in with the environment around him, as to not stand out. His life hasn't been very full of excitement or friendship, as he doesn't have many friends. Even as a child, he found himself putting up an act in front of his group of friends, not allowing them to get close to the real him. There is one very unique thing about him though, and it's called "Revival." Revival is a phenomenon closely related to Deja Vu for comparison sake, except it happens at random moments while he is awake and he remembers everything. Revival will happen whenever he sees a beautiful, glowing butterfly; in the next instant, he is jumped back in time about 5 to 10 minutes. It is at this time, he must quickly diagnose his surroundings and find something out of place, for there is always something. He uses this power to save lives. For instance, in the opening episode Revival happens to him and he is able to see a truck driver dead at the wheel, heading straight for a child in a cross walk. He manages to curve the vehicle away, at the cost of his own body getting flailed as he got hit by a car. So that's nice, another anime where someone can predict the future. Well, there's a twist. It happens after a Revival instance goes by without any harm coming to anyone around him. Satoru even asks his mother to look around, but nothing was out of the ordinary. A few days later, Satoru comes home to find his mother dead in his apartment, and set up in a way that he looks like the killer. In a panic, he runs from the police. This is when it happens...A Revival like no other. At first, Satoru doesn't really know what is going on, but then he sees a familiar school building that boasts the current year of hockey champions, and he realizes. His Revival has taken him back to his elementary school self, but for what cause? It would just so happen that a string of kidnap / murders are about to happen to some kids at the school, and Satoru realizes that he is supposed to stop it. On the surface, it seems like a pretty cut and paste anime. Some kiddo goes back in the past to save some lives and stuff, but if you dig deeper, there is something truly amazing going on here. This anime isn't just about his ability to perform Revival, that is an after thought to the whole show. What is important in this show is the bonds of friendship that happen, and the addition of a little bit of mystery and drama to fill it out. We get to see a man, or boy rather, struggle desperately to save the ones that he comes to care for. His desperation to change the past is something to marvel at, yet it's not easy. He often finds himself tracing in the exact footprints of history, without even knowing it. It is a true adventure to go along with Satoru as he tries to unravel the mystery of the murders, as well as the sudden jumps back to current time where he is trying to escape not only the police, but the man who murdered his mother as well. I would definitely recommend anyone who has a little time on their hands to sit down and watch this anime. If you enjoy a story of touching friendship, with some drama and mystery, then you are going to love this anime. It is kind of a supernatural, because of his power, but like I said before, that becomes more of an after thought to the rest of the anime. Go on and watch the adventure of Satoru unfold as he attempts to change the course of his past.
