Plot / Story Sousuke is the perfect soldier; he carries out his missions with precision, he always follows orders, and he always competes his mission. He is a Seargent in an anti-terrorist military group known as Mithril. There technology is at least a decade ahead of anyone, at least so they thought. Mithril acts with precision; they hit hard, save the day, then disappear back into the ocean without even batting an eye. What happens when Sousuke, a soldier that has always been just that, a soldier, is assigned a mission that requires him to become an ordinary high school student? He, along with his team (Mao and Kurz), are assigned with protecting a high school girl named Chidori. It is rumored that she is a rare kind of person known as a "whispered." Whispered are thought to know secrets of a special technology, and as of late they are being sought after by terrorist organizations. Sousuke's mission is to enroll in the high school that Chidori attends, and protect her against any and all danger. The kicker is, she can't know why they are protecting her. Things go just about how you would expect, Sousuke has no knowledge of social norms or practices, so he sticks out like a sore thumb. He quickly earns the title of "Military Nut" and Chidori notices almost immediately that he is following her. This is the basis for our story, Sousuke must not only overcome his inability to blend in with normal social conventions, but also protect a girl that, quite frankly, doesn't want him around. Eventually, she does learn of why he is following her, since their entire class' plane gets hijacked and circumstances required Chidori know the truth. Even after she knows the truth, she never stops giving Sousuke a hard time. Their relationship proves to have many funny moments, and many violent attacks whenever Sousuke does something to irritate her. The series has a lot of randomness to it. Random terrorist organizations that either kidnap her or plan to. We even follow some of Sousuke's random missions that he has to go on every now and again. The only consistent bad guy is Gauron, a type of arch nemesis of Sousuke, that he kills like four times over, which gets annoying. Sequels There are two sequels to the first season of this series: Fumoffu and Second Raid. Fumoffu is more of a funny spin off than a sequel, it is actually classified as a side story rather than a direct sequel. This side story focuses more on humor than action, and also the relationship of Sousuke and Chidori, and a little competition from Sousuke's Captain Tessa. Second Raid is the direct sequel to the first season, taking place immediately after the events of the first season. In my opinion, it's pretty much a remake of season one with a new enemy. The same things happen, random action and funny moments. The enemy is as annoying as ever, and weird I would say. It just lacked a little muster. Overall This anime series is just okay, I enjoyed the humor moments which is why I kept watching, but eventually the loose plot and the random action scenes just get repetitive and boring. I totally prefer the Tessa x Sousuke pairing rather than the more likely Sousuke x Chidori though. The series starts out really slow, so give it a couple of episodes to show its worth. If you are feeling it after that then drop it, it doesn't get much better. You will find yourself laughing at certain points during the season, but it's not really enough to give this series the green light. Written by: Kyle Hawk Want to find a new anime series to watch?
