WhatsApp Working On Web Version Of Its Messaging App

WhatsApp Passes 700 Million WhatsApp cofounder and CEO Jan Koum said on Monday that the messaging app has topped 700 million monthly active users.

In a Facebook post, Koum wrote, "Today, thrilled to share that WhatsApp has more than 700 million monthly active users. Additionally, every day our users now send over 30 billion messages." As crazy as it sounds, WhatsApp's massive growth is on pace with what it saw over the past year. Just a little over four months ago, in late August, WhatsApp announced that it surpassed 600 million monthly active users.

There are even some preloaded filters to apply to your pictures before sharing them. Cross-network sharing (Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, etc) is also available.

Yuma International YMI - Is WhatsApp Worth Facebook's $19bn? Yuma International (YMI): WhatsApp, the mobile messaging start-up has piqued the interest of the world's largest social network Facebook which has agreed to buy it for $19bn.

The deal - the largest internet takeover for 10 years - was announced by Facebook CEO and founder, Mark Zuckerberg to raised eyebrows across the technology and investment spaces but YMI analysts suggest there is genuine value behind the "fairytale" numbers.

"Facebook is hemorrhaging younger users who, understandably, are reluctant to be on the same social network as the one their parents use so the best way for the company to preserve its relevance in a world where it's considered the old man of social networking is to purchase a company like WhatsApp which is seen as young, vibrant and established with more than 450 million users who use the service for real-time communications, an area Facebook has been trying to develop with mixed results," explained one Yuma International tech analyst.

Facebook is interested in tapping into the real-time communications aspect of social networking but its own Facebook Messenger application has received less than stellar reviews and uptake.

"WhatsApp is readymade and, what's more, they've achieved that without annoying users with advertising that most of them have little to no interest in being exposed to," said the Yuma International (YMI) analyst.

Mr. Zuckerberg said that he believes WhatsApp could go on to amass 1 billion users in the foreseeable future while WhatsApp says it is to introduce live phone calls in the very near future adding even more appeal to the deal for Facebook.
