When you’re considering the Cinque Terre weather and the best time to visit the wonderful UNESCO World Heritage region, it really does come down to what exactly you want to do during your stay. Many agree that the best times to visit for the most pleasant temperatures are April, May, September and October, but the place is equally beautiful at any time of year. Here we look at the activities visitors may want to do in the region and the best time to visit based on the climate. Hiking the Blue Trail (Cinque Terre Trail) This trail is the very reason that many people visit this wonderful coastal region, but as the hiking is definitely not flat and shade is not always available, it is advised that you choose spring to take on the hike. April and May offer cooler temperatures and the spring blooms will be your backdrop. The weather is warm enough to wear shorts and t-shirts but not too hot that you risk sunburn and dehydration. That said, many people do take on the hike in the summer as this is when they’re able to take their annual holiday. If you do visit in June or July make sure you bring plenty of sunscreen and schedule in lots of water stops. Honeymooners Could there be a more romantic way to spend a honeymoon than on the Italian Riviera? We think not, but when (according to the Cinque Terre weather) should you go to make the most of the area? The best times for honeymooners are early June, September and October, when crowds tend to be thinner and the weather is very pleasant for romantic strolls and dining ‘al fresco’. Outdoor Activities Again, the shoulder seasons of May through to June and September to October offer perfect Cinque Terre weather for outdoor activities, when there is little rain and fresher temperatures. It will still be warm for anyone engaging in outdoor activities, but not unbearable by any means. The sun will be lower in the sky, reducing the risk of sunburn, and the breeze from the sea will make the whole experience even more enjoyable, whatever you are doing. Budget Travellers December and January are the best months if you're travelling on a budget. It can get cold but crowds are at their minimum and prices fall. Everything is less expensive, from sleeping to eating and, if you dress for the weather, you can still make the most of the region and avoid any hustle and bustle. In fact, the Cinque Terre weather at this time of year is a small price to pay for having the area to yourself. When you visit this fantastic region, choose your dates depending on what you plan to do. While the shoulder season (April to early June and September to October) are wonderful for lots of activities, the rest of the year can be lovely too. If you can’t be so flexible with dates and have to travel in summer, as long as you’re prepared for the heat, it shouldn’t stop you.
