If you’re not a regular movie watcher, you can sometimes find yourself in odd situations when someone suggests watching a movie but it’s headlong into a franchise that you are not familiar with at all. Ditto with current movies because if you don’t make it a habit of visiting your local movie theater very often, there’s a good chance you’ve probably missed the first in a series of movies comprising an entire franchise. You’ll undoubtedly miss something, right? Well, not necessarily. Some movie franchises are great about being able to not only have a beautiful woven thematic connection between films, but they can also cater to the individual who might have missed an installment. A quick recap on what happened with the movie before is a nice touch, or if you know you’re going to watch a movie that has a prequel, do a quick summary search online for any previous film(s) just so that you feel a little more caught up. Then again, you might ask yourself one simple question — why don’t you watch movies more often? They offer a little break from the rough and tumble world we live in, and at the end of it, you walk away a little more refreshed than when you first walked in. Sounds night, huh? You can also check out the biggest trend in movie theaters by trying out a dine-in theater, also known as a movie grill. You get dinner, service, and even on-site brewed beer while you watch a movie. That’s even better than most people’s set-up at home. If you might be rethinking your casual and often too infrequent movie watching, here are three current movies available in your local theater that are worth checking out. Before you do, though, be sure to check out their previous installments so that you get the full picture of what’s going on: Mamma Mia! & Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again — The first movie involves a daughter wishing to be walked down the aisle for her wedding by her father but mom being less-than-sure whom it might be. The follow-up has the daughter trying to bring together all of the figures of her now-deceased mother’s past including BFFs and boyfriends. ABBA music abounds. Mission: Impossible & Mission: Impossible - Fallout — The first movie introduces us to the character Ethan Hunt in stunning cinematic fashion by obliterating his spy team & pinning the crime on him. The current movie, two decades & many other movies later, still show Ethan Hunt being as awesome as ever. The Equalizer & The Equalizer 2 — In the first film, a dark past can only stay “retired” for so long before someone needs help. The main character becomes a protective force with an intense thirst for maintaining what’s right in the world. The second film has our “hero” trying to once again get away from a dark past only to be dragged back in by the murder of someone very close. It’s all-out vengeance at this point. While you’re at it, check out the other current movies available at your local theater. You might find that a little suspension of disbelief for a few hours once a week may be an ideal way to recharge your batteries and chill out for a bit during the week. If you’re lucky, you can even check with the theater and see what loyalty program they have in place, which can be some serious incentive to check out a flick every so often.
